
Performing Ensembles
New Music Ensemble
Grades 9-12
Available Instrumentation: Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Saxophone, Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, Percussion, Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Guitar, Voice
This advanced level music course is for musicians that want to explore advanced contemporary music. Students will be expected to practice at least 30 minutes a day to keep up with the demand of the music. Students will also explore intermediate level music theory, music production, as well as be a part of the composition process for all of the music created for the ensemble. The New Music Ensemble will serve as the premier performing ensemble, attending competitions and festivals in California as well as out of state in addition to our two school concerts. By the 2020-2021 school year, this ensemble will be performing overseas. Students must be in academic good standing. Rehearsals and performances outside of class time are part of the course requirement and constitute a portion of the grade. An audition is required for this ensemble.
New West Ensemble
Grades 9-12
Available Instrumentation: Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Saxophone, Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, Percussion, Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Guitar
This intermediate level music course is for musicians that want to perform intermediate level music. Students will be expected to practice at least 20 minutes a day. Students will perform at two concerts and one local competitive festival. Members may also be required to perform at sporting events on a rotational basis and school rallies. Rehearsals and performances outside of class time are part of the course requirement and constitute a portion of the grade. An audition is required for this ensemble.
Concert Choir
Grades 9-12
Available Instrumentation: Female Voice, Male Voice, Piano (audition required)
This vocal music course is for musicians that want to perform many different genres of vocal music. Students will be expected to practice at least 20 minutes a day. Students will perform at two concerts and one local competitive festival. Rehearsals and performances outside of class time are part of the course requirement and constitute a portion of the grade. No audition is necessary for this course.
Non-Performing Classes
Music History & Appreciation
Grades 9-12
This new course offering is for students that are looking to fulfill a humanities requirement without having to be in a performing group. Students will explore music history from Antiquity through the Modern era. By the end of the course, students will have an in-depth understanding of a wide range of music genres, styles, composers, and origins. Students that are performing students are also encouraged to take this course to expand their musical knowledge.
